Nevada Stupak breaks ground on Stratosphere Tower with his father, Bob Stupak

Stratosphere Tower developer Bob Stupak didn’t start at those heights.  Decades before, he came to Las Vegas as a promoter and winning poker player, eventually building Vegas World, the hotel and casino originally on the site of his towering later development.  Now branded The Strat, it has been the tallest building on the Las Vegas skyline, as well as west of the Mississippi, ever since.  Bob Stupak is the guy who created Vegas Vickie on Fremont Street, won several poker titles, and a one-million dollar Superbowl bet.  He famously bet Donald Trump $1 million he could beat him at his own board game (Trump declined the bet).

And he was a friend of Liberace.

Bob’s son Nevada Stupak developed local connections only second-generation Las Vegan status can produce.  His Stupak Las Vegas has been featured in Vice, GQ, Bloomberg, Forbes and Entrepreneur.  Nevada was interviewed recently by Tauheed “2 Chainz” Epps, who nicknamed him “the Plug” on his show, The Most ExpensivestNevada saw to the naming of a street for his father at the twentieth anniversary of the Strat.  He is involved in the local community on many levels.

Stupak’s vision is clear: “I’m looking forward to helping Liberace’s legacy see its full potential at last, in the town he influenced so much.”

“Nevada Stupak represents the quintessential Las Vegas local. No other city is so nuanced, and no individual has mastered that more than he has,” replies Liberace Foundation Chairman Jonathan Warren.

  1. Thanks, Jonathan.  As someone who has had involvement with Las Vegas since the 1950s and who adored Lee, I really hate how they keep trashing the names of the hotel/casinos in Las Vegas (Treasure Island = “T.I.” … Las Vegas Hilton = LVH… Sahara – SLS). And now we have “the strat”… how revolting. What are they talking about? Jimi Hendrix’s guitar? Didn’t the Sahara folks learn about trashing that name? PLEASE promise you won’t be changing anything Liberace to “Lib” or “the L.F.” or some such thing! Lee Dixon

    • Lee, I couldn’t agree more! Worse yet, imagine spending millions to re-brand with these silly nonsensical names. SLS stood for “So Long Sahara” to everyone I described it to. So happy Meruelo named it back to Sahara. TI = Trashed It. LVH = Last Vein Hemorrhage. Strat = can’t spell Stratosphere. Liberace will always be Liberace.
