New Liberace League Seeking Volunteers to Preserve Legacy of Liberace Showmanship & Scholarship
Young professionals in Southern Nevada who are seeking new ways to get involved in the local community and have fun are encouraged to join the Liberace Museum’s new Liberace League. This group of volunteers is dedicated to sharing information and generating awareness about Liberace’s playful legacy of showmanship and his generous support for the arts through his scholarship foundation.
"Our hope is to have fun, meet and network with new people who like to give back to our city, all while we introduce Mr. Showmanship to new audiences and spread the word about Liberace’s generosity and his Las Vegas legacy in hopes of increasing funding for the arts,” states volunteer League Co-Chairs Karen Rubel and Dan Smith.
The League’s first major focus for 2007 is to assist in the planning and launch of the very special 2007 annual Liberace Piano Competition, which is open to any person who is an amateur pianist or professional pianist in Showmanship and Classical categories. The piano competition will be a glittering showcase of music and showmanship. The competition begins on Sunday, Aug. 12, with live piano auditions at the Liberace Museum; Sunday, Sept. 9 will feature the Competitor’s Showcase event, and the Liberace Piano Competition finals are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16.
For more information about the Liberace League and Liberace Foundation or to become a member, please contact Shirley Swift at the Liberace Foundation & Museum, phone 702.798.5595, ext. 16. League meetings are held monthly at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month at the Liberace Museum, 1775 E. Tropicana Ave. in Las Vegas. Visit the website at www.liberace.org. |
