Liberace Scholar Application Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS

  • All applicants must use and sign the official Foundation application form.
  • All application questions must be fully answered or the application will be rejected.
  • All supplemental sheets to the application must be attached in the order presented.
  • All applicants must attach a copy of applicant’s school year calendar for next year.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Only accredited institutions of higher learning (for example: colleges, universities or conservatories) offering degrees in either the creative or performing arts are eligible. “Creative and Performing Arts” are defined as music, dance, architecture, graphic design, fashion design, painting, sculpture, photography, museum studies, mixed media, drama and creative writing.
  • Because of Liberace’s commitment to the Las Vegas community, we allow certain local arts organizations to apply.
  • Applications from multiple departments of the same institution will be accepted.

PREFERENCE

  • Will be given to leading programs in their disciplines.
  • Will be given to institutions matching the Liberace Foundation grant.
  • Will be given to institutions applying with a continuing “Liberace Scholar”.
  • Will be given to institutions with ensembles bearing the Liberace name.

GRANT REQUIREMENTS

  • The institution must have a program(s) leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree in the performing or creative arts.
  • The Liberace Scholar must be selected through an adjudication process based on merit and without regard to race, religion, creed or financial need.
  • The institution must be accredited by a statewide, regional, national, or international accrediting agency.
  • The institution is required to use the grant solely for tuition. The grant cannot be used for materials, travel, supplies or equipment unless such items are included as part of tuition.
  • The grant is limited to juniors, seniors or graduate students majoring in the performing or creative arts.
  • The selected applicant must be designated as a “Liberace Scholar” in all appropriate institution publications and all publications containing his/her biographical information.
  • If successful, applicant must complete the “Selection Process and Award Form” enclosed with the grant stipend within 15 days applicant’s “Liberace Scholar” is designated, or by September 30th, whichever comes first.
  • Each designated “Liberace Scholar” must complete and submit the “Liberace Scholar Profile and Agreement Form” enclosed with the grant stipend along with a photograph within 15 days applicant’s “Liberace Scholar” is designated, or by September 30th, whichever comes first.
  • Applicant must transmit copies of all grant-related press releases and also agrees to complete two “Liberace Scholar Academic and Artistic Reports” mailed with grant checks and to submit the semester-end reports by February 1st and June 15th.
  • Applicant and each of its “Liberace Scholars” must grant the Liberace Foundation access to the scholar’s name, likeness and works created during the grant period for promotional and/or exhibit purposes. A separate release form will be provided for each requested use.

PREVIOUS APPLICANTS

  • Are you applying for a Continuing “Liberace Scholar”?
  • If yes, a completed Continuing “Liberace Scholar” worksheet must be submitted for each scholar with the application.

CALENDAR DEADLINES

  • March 15: All applications must be received at the Nevada Community Foundation office.
  • April 30: Notification of grant status.
  • August 1: Checks mailed to funded institutions. Included will be Scholar and Selection Worksheets to be submitted to the Nevada Community Foundation by September 30th.
  • September 30: Deadline for submission of all Scholar and Selection Worksheets.
  • February 1: Fall semester reports on each Liberace Scholar are due in the requested format.
  • June 15: Spring semester reports on each Liberace Scholar are due in the requested format.
